Latin Percussion 1.2: What's Going On?

I have seen the documentary Keepintime: Brasilintime and one of the biggest things I learned was that Marvin Gaye's- What's Going On? was one of the first US releases to incorporate Samba into the mainstream. You can hear that in every song of that LP, the Conga is played in a slow Samba rhythm.

So for those who are trying to get the hang of playing to a Samba beat go and listen to Marvin Gaye's -What's Going On? Record for ideas on other patterns to play and recreate. A lot of the patterns are played to something like a 92-96 BPM Samba groove and as soon as you can catch that rhythm with both the Conga and Bongo, move on to a faster bpm on the metronome. When you are hitting 110-130 you got the hang of playing those percussion instruments for a Samba like groove and don't forget to look in the groove presets under the Percussion folder for more ideas. The clip below is from a jam session into the Inner City Blues track.
