Ok, so when i opened up the MPC grooves folder in Live 8, I notice there is a variation of the mpc groove called double up and double down.

You might think these functions double your timing, but its better to think of these grooves as a nudge up or nudge down function found in live. If you double up the timing or double down your timing (cut in half) right away the beat will just sound awkward, these preset grooves are a great way to change speed in playing style without such a harsh BPM jump.

Double Up
So if you double up the mpc groove, the best time to use this groove is when you are playing exactly on beat and then you want to speed things up gradually without throwing off the whole clip at double it's speed. It will catch your upbeat playing while mainting the original groove you played to.

Double Down
Double down is another way for saying half the timing of your original timing. This set of grooves are great for someone that wants to do some slow playing and then blend back to a normal beat pattern. Like the other double groove settings you can have a shift in timing and still revert back to the metronome feel without having midi notes spread out all over the place.

Both grooves do cut your workflow time overall if you are trying to play normal to your master BPM , then shift in speed and then go back to playing normal without having to use three clips instead you can write the midi pattern in one clip. Of course, these grooves all still have that mpc swing while adjusting to speed changes.
