Nasty Girls
0-4.5 secondsThe break appears right at the beginning of this song and starts off with a hollow kick that is layered with a hat. Then you can begin to hear sounds that resemble cabasa/shaker instruments building some percussion for the beat. You will also notice and electronic sounding tom. There is also some slight layering with this tom sound. You will also hear kicks layered with shakers. Last but not least the break has a nice loud and crisp clap to it. It sounds like a tr-808 clap or another vintage machine clap. Nonetheless that clap is noteworthy to keep in one's permanent sound library. When you really start to slice up this break you will seem to notice that some of the instruments come from drum machines while other sounds seem to sound like a real drum set. If you are going to try to slice every piece of the first loop I would also recommend turning off the quantize on your sampler and try playing the rhythm out bye ear to make it sond better. I can't determine the time signature, but it seems like it is not a 4/4 time signature when it comes to the percussion mixing in with the regular drums. 8.4 seconds-10 seconds You will hear the same break you heard earlier, but now their is a synth bass which sounds like a Moog Voyager layered in with the drums to give it a thicker sound. In the 9.75 seconds mark you will hear a really nice clap layered with a deep kick. So if you want to add a little variety in the pattern you are designing try incorporating these sounds or your own synth sounds with the basic drum pattern in th earlier track. 5:04-end of song Besides hearing the solo vocals at the end of the track you will also get a good thick pad loop at the end. Since this record was produced in 1981/1982 digital synths were still at their infancy and the synths used on this production are analog. So if you just chop that sound at the end you can get a nice analog sound to your tracks. If you are looking forward to writing a dance track, the sounds here are definitely inspirational.
